The Rug Man

I was injured on the job and broke both legs and the tail bone, so they put me out to the pasture. In August of 1994 I ended up at Camp Sunnyside. While there, I wanted to take wood working classes, but due to high demand there was a 3 years waiting list. So I went over to weaving and learned to make rugs. One day while I was at camp, a loom broke down.  I went in after class and started working on the loom. I was able to fix it and had it ready for the next morning.

Today I make my rugs in an addition I’ve built onto my house. I make my rugs out of clothing and fabrics that are gently used and can be recycled, such as sweatshirts, t-shirts, denim and blankets, and other materials that will hold up well. I “restore” and repair old rugs by tearing them apart and remaking them. I also enjoy helping others learn how to weave on a loom.
